This six-sided box is constructed of old wooden crate boxes originally. Now more modern, cajon boxes are made from birch plywood. To create a cajon box, one starts by have two sides of plywood slightly shorter than the other two sides. These sides get glued together, and when the glue is set, the sound hole is made on another piece of slide. The snare wire is placed inside of a different piece and all is glued together. Once finished, the edges are smoothed down for the player will sit on the top. A padded seat may be added and so can designs. All can be put together and sold for anywhere between $40 to over $600 depending on the materials used and the maker's experience.
